WHERE DOES THE Q TRAIN DEPART FROM?

The Q Train will departs from, and returns to, Drysdale Railway Station, Drysdale, Victoria. See a map on the Transport Options page.

IS THE Q TRAIN A RETURN TRIP?

Yes! We’ll have you back at Drysdale Station 3 hours after departure.

WHERE DOES IT TRAVEL?

The Q Train travels along the Bellarine Railway. We depart Drysdale Station, travel through the Bellarine past Suma Park and Swan Bay, then turn around at Queenscliff to return to Drysdale.

IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO GET OFF THE TRAIN?

We usually pause at either Suma Park and/or Queenscliff Station. This gives you an opportunity to stretch your legs and chat to the drivers if you like.

IS THERE CAR PARKING AVAILABLE?

Yes, there is plenty of off street car parking at Drysdale Station.

HOW MUCH DOES THE Q TRAIN COST?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN Q CLASS AND FIRST CLASS?

Q Class has an open dining set up, enabling for a more social experience. Drinks are not included, however they can be purchased during travel.

First Class guests have their own private cabins, along with tasting sized beverages matched to each course and complimentary tea and coffee. First class can also purchase drinks on top of their drink pairings if they wish to.

IS THE Q TRAIN AIR CONDITIONED?

Yes, all of our cars air-conditioned and heated. We use a negative pressure system for air conditioning, which brings in outside air from one end of the carriage, and expels it at the other end. This is unlike most domestic and commercial air conditioning systems which rely on circulating air within the carriage.

However, it is important to note that with doors opening and closing frequently, these 50 years old air conditioners have been known to struggle on very hot days. Thinker cooler, not cold!

CAN I TRAVEL IF I AM PREGNANT?

Yes, you can travel if you are pregnant. However, please note that due to structure and space restrictions, there is limited fixed space between the front of the table and the back of the chair. If you’d like the menu altered due to pregnancy restrictions, please let us know when booking.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

The Q Train is an exciting and unique experience. We ask that our patrons reflect this in smart casual. We ask that singlets and thongs not be worn.

WHAT TIME DOES THE Q TRAIN START & FINISH?

October to March:

  • Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays: 1130am – 230pm
  • Saturdays: 7pm – 10pm
  • Sundays: 1230pm – 330pm

April to September:

  • Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays: 1130am – 230pm
  • Saturdays/Sundays: 1230pm – 330pm

These times are subject to change. Please check your confirmation email carefully, and call us if you have any questions. Please don’t be late – we simply cannot wait.

REFUNDS AND CANCELLATION POLICY

Private Bookings (less than 16 guests) cancelled with more than 7 days notice can be refunded (minus 3rd party booking fees and/or credit card fees) or rescheduled, or turned into a credit for future use.

Cancellations with more than 24 hours notice, but less than 7 days, will not be eligible for a refund, but will have their booking transferred to a credit.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice before the date of dining, or no shows, will incur full loss of monies paid.

I HAVE HEARD THERE IS AN OPTION TO TRAVEL VIA FERRY

Ferries can be a great way to travel from Melbourne and/or the Mornington Peninsula. Please see our Transport page for more information.

WHEN DOES THE Q TRAIN OPERATE?

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays all year round. We do not operate on Public Holidays and we shut for two weeks of Christmas/New Year so our staff can enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.
October to March:

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COST?

A scenic 3 hour train journey and 5 courses of local produce. Drinks are not included in Q Class, and in First Class drink pairing is included, but not ‘all you can drink’. Please see our Pricing Info page for more details.

DO I HAVE TO PAY NOW?

We require a 10% deposit on booking, the remaining amount will be deducted from your credit card we have on file 7-10 days prior to travel.

DO YOU CATER FOR DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?

Yes, our carefully designed degustation experience includes vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, nut free, and lactose free alterations upon request. Other diets, and preferences or dislikes are unlikely to be accommodated due to the limited kitchen and storage space on board The Q Train. Please note that we do need to know about dietary requirements before your booking. Due to space restrictions, we are unable to make alterations on the day of service. Please see our Menu page for more information about dietary requirements.

IS THERE A TOILET ON BOARD?

Each carriage has a toilet on board, however they cannot be used when the train is stationary. There are also toilets at every station.

CAN WE HAVE MORE THAN 6 PEOPLE PER TABLE?

The Q Train restaurant provides fixed table style seating in Q Class for 6, 4 or 2 and in First Class private dining compartments for 2, 6 or 10. There is no provision for moving tables and there is limited fixed space between the front of the table and the back of the chair. If your group is larger than six people in Q Class, please call us to discuss your seating.

HOW MANY DINERS CAN BE ACCOMMODATED?

CAN I SMOKE OR VAPE ON THE TRAIN?

Smoking and vaping is strictly not permitted anywhere on The Q Train or under the station verandah canopies.
On the platforms, smoking is permitted in designated areas, or as instructed by train staff.

WILL I GET MOTION SICKNESS?

The Q Train is a moving vehicle travelling at low speeds, averaging between 12-16km/h.

If you are prone to motion sickness, there is a remote chance you may experience minor motion sickness. In our 2-person First Class cabins, you both face the same way, so one way of the journey you are both going to be seated backwards.

In Q Class someone will be going backwards. On tables of 2, 4 and 6 you can change where you are sitting to be facing front always if you swap with your group members.

Our First Class Group Carriage has the tables placed longways so no one is backwards.

WHERE CAN I STAY IN THE AREA?

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM RUNNING LATE?

Unfortunately, we can’t wait so please don’t be late. If you are running late, please call us on (03) 4238 3930 and let us know as soon as possible.

CAN I BUY A GIFT CARD FOR THE Q TRAIN?

Yes! Gift cards are available for purchase here. Gift cards are non refundable, nor are they redeemable for cash.

CAN I HAVE FLOWERS DELIVERED TO THE Q TRAIN?

Absolutely! We recommend Miss Lillypilly in Drysdale. You can organise with them to have a bouquet waiting on your table when you arrive. Perfect for that special occasion. Contact Miss Lillypilly directly.

I HAVE LOW VISION, CAN MY GUIDE DOG COME ON THE Q TRAIN?

Yes, we would love you and your guide dog to join us on The Q Train.

IS THE Q TRAIN SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

The Q Train is not an experience designed for children. This is an experience to book the babysitter for! We do not permit small children, unless you have a Exclusive Carriage Hire or are in First Class Groups. However, if your older child would enjoy our degustation, then they are more than welcome. We do not offer children’s fares or menus.

There are no change facilities on board, and there is no room for prams.

ARE ANY PETS ALLOWED ON THE TRAIN?

We wish! But as an indoor dining venue, we can’t welcome pets. But we do welcome guide dogs!

I’VE RECEIVED A GIFT CARD; HOW CAN I REDEEM IT?

Lucky you!

If you have a Gift Card from The Q Train you can book online using your gift card: Book Now! or simply send us an email.

If you have a voucher from Red Balloon, your voucher will need to be redeemed via the RedBalloon website. We cannot do that for you.

A note about ‘false vouchers/gift cards’: Unfortunately, unscrupulous people sometimes print fake vouchers/gift cards, often leaving customers and businesses disappointed. Valid, authentic gift cards from The Q Train contain a unique gift card number. Only gift cards meeting these criteria are able to be redeemed. If you have any questions about a gift card that you have received, send us an email and we will be happy to help.

I HAVE A REDBALLOON GIFT VOUCHER

RedBalloon vouchers must be redeemed on the RedBalloon website. If the date you want isn’t available on their site but you think it is available on our site, please contact us.

Please Note: If two or more of you have Red Balloon vouchers but want to sit together, please contact us first to see if there is availability for the table size you are after.

WHAT IS THE STEAM SURCHARGE?

The Q Train is usually hauled by diesel locomotives. A few times a year we run ‘Steam Services’ which are hauled by 3620, our Steam Locomotive. This engine is expensive to run, which is why there is an extra cost. On these Steam Services we offer a unique photo opportunity as well.

WHERE ARE MY FERRY TICKETS?

We book ferry tickets 1-2 months in advance, you will receive your ferry tickets closer to the date of your booking via email.

CAN I PURCHASE TAKEAWAY DRINKS ON BOARD?

No. The Q Train does not have a takeaway liquor license. BUT the menus on your table do have a map of the region which includes all of the producers we use, so you can find them easily.

CAN I BRING OTHER FOOD ON BOARD?

No. The Q Train is a restaurant, and we do not allow other food brought on the train. The only exception is cakes, however please note that we do charge cakeage.

CAN WE BRING A CAKE?

Yes, if you let us know in advance we can make room for a cake. However, we charge $5pp cakeage and we will cut and serve your cake with local cream and fresh berry coulis. It is worth noting, however, that you will have eaten 5 courses of delicious food so you may not have room for cake!

CAN WE DECORATE THE CARRIAGE?

If you have exclusive use of the carriage or compartment you’re in, then yes! If you are in First Class Groups, or have an Exclusive Carriage Hire contact us to organise decoration.

WHAT IS DRINK MATCHING?

Our First Class guests receive tasting pours of wine, beer or mocktails that have been carefully chosen/created to nicely complement each meal.

  • Wine Matching: approx. 100ml per course (less for fortified wines)
  • Beer Matching: approx. ½ a can per course
  • Mocktails: approx. half a glass per course

I’VE JOINED THE WAITLIST – IS MY BOOKING IS CONFIRMED?

The Q Train books out early – we recommend you book at least a month in advance for Q Class and two months for First Class. We do receive cancellations and postponements, which is when we look at our waitlist.

By joining the waitlist, you are the first to be contacted if a table becomes available on the date you request.

I WANT TO DEPART FROM QUEENSCLIFF.

The Q Train is now totally based out of Drysdale. Unless a train is privately charted, all services will be departing from, and returning to, Drysdale. If you are staying, or living, in Queenscliff it is worth noting that Explore Australia does offer return transport. Please select ‘Queenscliff Transport’ as a booking extra.

WHY CAN’T I FIND AN AVAILABLE DATE?

The Q Train books out early – we recommend you book at least a month in advance for Q Class and two months for First Class. In particular, First Class Groups sells out very early. This is because we only have three cabins equipped for first class group bookings, which means we can only fit three bookings per service.

Please contact us as soon as possible. If you didn’t get an order number this means your booking didn’t go through, and we don’t want you to miss out.
