MORE than a decade ago, train enthusiast Andrew Bridger started keeping tabs on some Queensland Sunlander coaches due to be retired from service.
Then operated by Queensland Rail, the long-distance passenger service ran between Brisbane and the state’s far north from the 1950s until 2014.
As president of Bellarine Railway for 12 years and a volunteer for the previous 30 years, Mr Bridger was happy to bide his time.
When the trains hit the market, he teamed with fellow train lover Michael Barclay to make a bid.
