Hi there! I hope you’ve all stayed safe and well, and are enjoying our new freedoms. We’ve all played our part, and we’re now reaping those rewards!
In regards to reopening, I have a bit of a bittersweet announcement. While we’re so excited to see our friends open up across the state, unfortunately social distancing requirements mean that we simply can not open in the immediate future. As I’m sure you can imagine, running a restaurant on rails comes with significant overhead costs, as does using the superior produce we love. Being restricted to 4 square meters per person, regardless of capacity caps, means that we could only have 5 or 6 people in our carriages. We have made the difficult decision to postpone all services until the end of September, with a hopeful reopening in October.
An enormous thank you to everyone who has chosen to postpone, rather than cancel. It is this incredible support that has allowed us to plan our reopening so confidently.
We are working to make sure we open better than ever, with our beautiful Steam Locomotive joining us on track. We’ll be taking to social media to give you updates along that way.
All gift vouchers will be extended for a period that is equal to the entire period of our closure. You do not need to contact us to do this, we will be doing it for you.
All bookings for March, April, May, June, July, August and September have been made ‘open ended’. When you want to rebook, simply call us and quote your original booking number and we’ll move them.
All bookings for October onwards are still in place, at the moment. If you’d like to change them, please email us and we can change them for you.
If you are not in a position to support us by postponing and would not like to experience The Q Train when we reopen, it is important to note we are assessing each refund request individually.
We’re not open, so our phones and emails aren’t being monitored during usual business hours. As with all family businesses, we don’t really ‘switch off’ fully. So, we will be checking emails and phone messages periodically.
Finally, let me leave you with this: go and support those restaurants and cafes that are reopening now. We are, and we’re loving it. However, if you have a voucher for those places, please consider holding on to them for now. This has been a simply devastating time for hospitality, and please save your vouchers for when these businesses are back on their feet. It will mean the world to them, and the staff they are employing.
